Arak and Satyricus agree to let the girls accompany them for a while, but when the younger girl trips and falls, "her" identity as a boy is revealed. His name is Alsind, and he claims to be the rightful heir to the Caliph, ruler of Islam. Later, the group is lured into being attacked by a ghul, a creature that lives inside a rock. It manages to abduct Satyricus before being driven away, but Arak uses his new-found shaman powers to locate the rock where the ghul resides. As the ghul is destroyed, she recognizes Arak's heritage and rages against the Serpent for not warning her.
