All-New, All-Different Avengers #8

Part of Marvel's 2016 "Standoff" crossover event, this eighth issue of All-New, All-Different Avengers announces itself with a striking Alex Ross cover that feels more like a crime scene than a superhero slugfest. Yellow "Avengers Crime Scene" tape bisects the image as multiple armored and costumed heroes — including at least two Spider-Man figures and a gleaming, silver-helmeted Thor — press together in a chaotic, close-quarters tangle of gauntlets, capes, and outstretched hands. Mark Waid and Adam Kubert's interior collaboration promises plenty of intrigue to match that unsettling, beautifully rendered Ross cover.
