Issue two of this twelve-part Dark Horse series finds a striking, pale young woman in a white tank top and denim cutoffs standing her ground before a massive, looming Predator rendered in dramatic earth tones against a vivid red background — the contrast between her small, composed figure and the creature's hulking, armor-clad form is immediately arresting. John Bolton's cover art gives the image a painted, almost cinematic quality that suits the series' ambitious crossover premise perfectly. With Christopher Claremont writing and art from Jackson Guice and Eduardo Barreto, The Deadliest of the Species was clearly aiming for something genuinely bold in 1993.
