Christopher Claremont is best known for his transformative 16-year run on *Uncanny X-Men* from 1975 to 1991, the longest tenure of any writer on the series. Born Christopher S. Claremont in the United States, he entered comics in the early 1970s, working for Marvel before taking over the struggling *X-Men* franchise. His work is credited with developing strong female characters and introducing complex literary themes into superhero narratives, turning the book into the best-selling comic in the world. During his tenure, he co-created dozens of X-Men characters and wrote landmark stories like "The Dark Phoenix Saga" and "Days of Future Past," collaborating closely with artist John Byrne. He also played a key role in developing the character of Wolverine. The 1991 premiere of *X-Men* #1, which he co-wrote with Jim Lee, holds the Guinness World Record as the best-selling comic book of all time. Claremont continued writing for Marvel and other publishers, including work on *Aliens/Predator: The Deadliest of the Species* and the graphic novel *X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills*. In 2015, he and John Byrne were inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame.
