Adventure Comics #377

This February 1969 DC issue presents a genuinely unsettling cover scenario: a cold-eyed Superboy counts cash alongside a white-haired female Legionnaire while a desperate father pleads on his knees, pointing frantically to a young girl dangling from a ledge above — and Superboy's response ("Relax, pops… I'll do it after we count this beautiful cash!") makes the whole scene delightfully alarming. The cover, penciled by Curt Swan and inked by Neal Adams, pairs Swan's clean character work with Adams's bold linework to striking effect. Adventure Comics #377 features Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes in a story that dares to ask what happens when heroism comes with a price tag.
