Sana Takeda
1977–
Sana Takeda, born in 1977, is a Japanese illustrator and comic book artist best known for her lush, intricate work on the Hugo Award–winning series *Monstress*. She entered the comics field in the mid-2000s, building a reputation through art for titles such as *Ms. Marvel*, *Drain*, *Monster*, and *Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal*. Her signature style blends ornate, Eastern-influenced linework with rich, painterly colors, often evoking a dark fantasy aesthetic. Takeda’s most celebrated collaboration is with writer Marjorie Liu on *Monstress*, a series she has drawn and colored since its 2015 debut; the duo also created the horror-tinged *The Night Eaters*. Beyond her own art, Takeda has frequently served as both inker and colorist, demonstrating a versatile command of visual storytelling.
