Mary Wilshire
Mary Wilshire (born 1953 in the United States) is an American comic book artist and writer whose career spanned from the early 1980s into the 2020s. She is best recognized for her work on Marvel Comics’ *Red Sonja* and *Firestar*, the latter a co-creation with writer Danny Fingeroth that introduced the fan-favorite mutant superheroine. Wilshire’s clean, expressive linework and strong character design also made her a regular contributor to *Crazy Magazine* and a defining artist for *Barbie* and *Barbie Fashion* at Marvel. She worked on *The New Mutants* and contributed to over 65 issues across her career, often balancing art, inking, and writing duties. Her style—clear, dynamic, and accessible—helped shape the visual identity of several licensed and superhero titles during the 1980s and 1990s. While she never received major industry awards, her work on *Firestar* remains a touchstone for fans of Marvel’s animated and comic-book universes. Wilshire’s later years saw reduced output, but her contributions to both mainstream and licensed comics endure, particularly in the realm of strong female protagonists.
