In "Home Is Where the Heart Is," the New Mutants are scattered when Magik teleports them to separate locations, each facing a personal trial that tests their resolve and reveals hidden strengths. As they navigate these trials, they're drawn closer to understanding what it truly means to be a team—before reuniting to rescue Storm from Loki’s grasp.

In "The Times, They Are A'changin'!", Magneto takes the reins at the Xavier Institute, telling the New Mutants that Professor X won’t be returning—and that he’s now their headmaster. As the team adjusts to the shift, Mirage is saved from muggers by Brightwind, her new winged steed, while Magneto quietly begins to earn their trust. Meanwhile, Aleytys Forrester slips back to her boat and crew, unseen but present.

In "Subway to Salvation!", the Beyonder’s sudden arrival throws Magik into a crisis of faith, unleashing demons from Limbo across the city. As chaos spreads, Shadowcat unexpectedly inherits Magik’s Soulsword and armor—weapons she’s utterly unprepared to wield—while the New Mutants race to restore order and save her before the darkness consumes them all.

In "If I Should Die," Mirage is haunted by a vision of the New Mutants' impending doom, while Sunspot journeys to say goodbye to his mother. When the enigmatic Beyonder arrives, he offers salvation—but demands obedience, and when refused, he eradicates the team, erasing them from memory with chilling finality.

In "Aftermath!", the New Mutants grapple with the aftermath of their sudden death and rebirth at the hands of the Beyonder, leaving them shaken and uncertain. With Emma Frost offering Magneto her aid and Empath turning on Tom and Sharon, the team is thrust into a new phase as Magneto relocates them to the Massachusetts Academy.

In "Pawns of the White Queen," a fractured team of young mutants—Wolfsbane, Cypher, Magik, Karma, Cannonball, and Magma—find themselves caught in a web of shifting loyalties after joining the Hellions, while Mirage departs for home and Magik retreats to Limbo. As Magneto learns of Empath’s assault on Tom and Sharon, he moves to reclaim his charges, only to face resistance from Emma Frost, who calls the police to intervene.

When the police alert the Avengers that Magneto is targeting students at a private school, chaos erupts as the team confronts Magneto and Warlock. Meanwhile, the New Mutants pick up on the disturbance and rush to intervene, drawn into the escalating conflict. Emma Frost and the New Mutants part ways with a rare moment of mutual respect.
