Martin Nodell was born on November 15, 1915, and passed away on December 9, 2006. He is best remembered as the creator of the Golden Age Green Lantern, a character that debuted in 1940 and became one of the most enduring heroes in comics. Nodell’s path into the industry began with commercial art, and he soon found work in the burgeoning comic book field of the late 1930s. His early credits include penciling, inking, and lettering on titles such as *All-American Comics* and *Green Lantern*, where he established a clean, dynamic style that suited the era’s pulp-inspired adventures. He sometimes worked under the pen name Mart Dellon. Nodell’s most significant collaboration was with writer Bill Finger, with whom he co-created the Green Lantern mythos, including the character’s iconic power ring and oath. Beyond superheroes, he contributed to horror and science fiction titles like *Amazing Mysteries* and *Adventures into Terror*. After leaving comics in the early 1950s, Nodell worked in advertising and illustration. His legacy is defined by the Green Lantern’s lasting impact, which has been adapted across multiple media. He received the Inkpot Award in 1985 and the Bill Finger Award in 2005, honoring his foundational role in the medium.
