Kurtis Wiebe
Kurtis J. Wiebe is a Canadian comic book writer best known for creating the fantasy series *Rat Queens*, which he launched in 2013 with artist Roc Upchurch. Born in Canada, Wiebe entered comics in the early 2010s, quickly establishing himself with the Image Comics series *Peter Panzerfaust*, a reimagining of the Peter Pan story set during World War II. His signature work, *Rat Queens*, follows a foul-mouthed party of adventurers and earned critical acclaim, including a 2014 Eisner Award nomination for Best New Series and a 2015 GLAAD Media Award. Wiebe wrote the series until 2019, collaborating with artists such as Upchurch, Stjepan Šejić, Tess Fowler, and Owen Gieni. He also co-created the sci-fi series *Bounty* with artist Mindy Lee. Active primarily from 2012 to 2016, Wiebe’s work is noted for its irreverent humor, strong character dynamics, and genre-blending storytelling. He has since stepped back from regular monthly comics, leaving a legacy as a creator who helped revitalize fantasy comics with a modern, inclusive sensibility.
