Green Wake #2

Riley Rossmo's painted cover for Green Wake #2 sets an unsettling, dreamlike tone — a wild-haired woman with blood-stained hands reaches outward from a ghostly, wash-bleached background while silhouetted frogs swarm the lower half of the image in eerie profusion. The contrast between her haunted, expressionistic face and those creeping dark shapes gives the whole composition a dread that feels genuinely literary rather than shock-horror. Writer Kurtis Wiebe and artist Rossmo were clearly building something atmospheric and strange with this 2011 Image/Shadowline series.
