Jean-Yves Ferri
1959–
Jean-Yves Ferri, born 20 April 1959 in France, is a comics writer, designer, and colorist best known for taking the helm of the Asterix series after the passing of its original writer, René Goscinny. Chosen in July 2011 to script the next adventures of the indomitable Gaul, Ferri was personally mentored by co-creator Albert Uderzo, who also selected artist Didier Conrad. Ferri wrote five Asterix albums beginning with *Asterix and the Picts* (2013), followed by *Asterix and the Missing Scroll* (2015), *Asterix and the Chariot Race* (2017), *Asterix and the Chieftain's Daughter* (2019), and *Asterix and the Griffin* (2021). His run concluded in 2023 when Fabrice Caro succeeded him as writer.
Beyond Asterix, Ferri has worked as an artist, colorist, inker, and writer on 27 issues from 2002 to 2025, with credits including *Die Rückkehr aufs Land*, *Asterix Mundart*, *Astérix*, *Le retour à la terre*, and *Un' avventura di Asterix*. He is also recognized for his work on the series *Le retour à la terre*, a collaboration with artist Manu Larcenet. Ferri’s style balances humor and historical detail, maintaining the spirit of the classic Asterix while bringing his own narrative voice. His contributions have helped sustain the legacy of one of the most beloved Franco-Belgian comic series.
