Dave Stevens was born on July 29, 1955, in the United States. An illustrator and comics artist, he is best known for creating the character and comic book *The Rocketeer*, which later inspired a feature film. Stevens also gained renown for his pin-up style "glamour art," frequently featuring model Bettie Page. He entered the comics field in the late 1970s, with his earliest credited work appearing in 1977. Over his career, he contributed to titles including *Tarzan*, *Comic Art*, and the German publication *Die Sprechblase*, working as an artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer across 78 issues. In 1982, Stevens became the first recipient of Comic-Con International's Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award. He later received an Inkpot Award and, in 1986, the Kirby Award for Best Graphic Album. Stevens died on March 11, 2008. His legacy rests on his distinctive, retro-inspired illustration style and his signature creation, *The Rocketeer*, which remains a touchstone in adventure comics.
