Angus McKie
1951–
Angus McKie, born July 1951 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, is a British comics creator and science fiction illustrator. He is best known for his highly detailed spacecraft and vividly colored, high-tech cityscapes, which graced numerous paperback novel covers in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as Stewart Cowley's *Terran Trade Authority* series. McKie was an early adopter of computer-generated artwork in comics. His signature style, marked by intricate machinery against luminous backgrounds, influenced a generation of sci-fi concept artists, notably shaping the visual look of the *Homeworld* video game. Key collaborators include fellow British creators Dave Gibbons and Bryan Talbot. McKie's most credited comic work includes the series *Vermillion*, *Heart of Empire*, and contributions to *The Secret Service* and Neil Gaiman's *Teknophage* and *Mr. Hero - The Newmatic Man*. He worked across roles as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer on 93 issues from 1976 to 2019. His later career saw him continue to produce distinctive covers and interior art. McKie's work remains a touchstone for fans of 1970s and 1980s science fiction illustration.
