Heart of Empire #2 (1999, Dark Horse) brings together strands of espionage, political intrigue, and alternate histories in a story where veteran paratime agents are pulled back into action, American journalists navigate the streets of London, and Queen Anne faces a sudden challenge from her own ministers. Written and illustrated by Bryan Talbot, with additional art by SMS and inks by both Talbot and SMS, the issue features lush coloring by Bryan Talbot, Ian McKie, and Angus McKie, and lettering by Ellie DeVille. The cover, a collaborative effort by Bryan Talbot and William Morris, captures the story’s layered, historical tension.
