Magpie

Magpie is a Gotham City thief with a compulsion to steal jewels and gemstones, replacing them with deadly booby-trapped replicas. She notably appeared in the crossover that first brought the post-Crisis Batman and Superman together as a team.

A glittering piece of Copper Age villainy, Magpie made her debut in John Byrne's landmark The Man of Steel #3 in 1986 — a reimagining of the DC Universe so significant it brought both Batman and Superman together on the same page, and she was right there in the thick of it. Over nearly four decades she's haunted the pages of Batman, Adventures of Superman, and Action Comics, keeping dangerous company with the likes of Bruce Wayne and Green Lantern. Her appearance count may be modest, but a character who earns a place in one of DC's most consequential relaunches carries a prestige that numbers alone don't capture — a shiny little gem worth hunting down for any serious collector.
