Kangaroo
Frank Oliver was an Australian man who spent years training with kangaroos, developing their signature leaping ability and powerful kicks to near-superhuman levels. He emigrated to the United States and turned to crime, bringing him into conflict with Spider-Man.
Born in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #81 in 1970, Kangaroo leapt onto the Silver Age Marvel scene courtesy of the legendary creative team of Stan Lee, John Romita, John Buscema, and Jim Mooney β about as star-studded a debut as a villain could ask for. Crossing paths with Spider-Man, Peter Parker, and Gwen Stacy in those early appearances, this Marvel oddity carved out a niche in the Spider-Man corner of the universe that has proven surprisingly durable, with appearances stretching all the way into 2024 across titles like Superior Spider-Man and Ultimate Comics Spider-Man. With a key issue to their name and the occasional brush with heavy-hitters like Iron Man, Kangaroo is a quintessential piece of Spider-Man's colorful rogues' gallery β the kind of deep-cut character that true Marvel collectors love to track down.
