D'Spayre is a Fear Lord — a demon-like entity who feeds on and amplifies the despair of others. Created by the ancient Dweller-in-Darkness, he exists as a near-embodiment of hopelessness, wielding dark magic to trap victims in psychological torment.

Few villains wear their purpose as openly as D'Spayre — a Bronze Age nightmare born from the minds of Chris Claremont and John Byrne in Marvel Team-Up #68 (1978), whose very name tells you everything about what he deals in.
