D'Spayre
D'Spayre is a Fear Lord — a demon-like entity who feeds on and amplifies the despair of others. Created by the ancient Dweller-in-Darkness, he exists as a near-embodiment of hopelessness, wielding dark magic to trap victims in psychological torment.
Few villains wear their purpose as openly as D'Spayre — a Bronze Age nightmare born from the minds of Chris Claremont and John Byrne in Marvel Team-Up #68 (1978), whose very name tells you everything about what he deals in. Over nearly five decades, this Marvel menace has haunted some of the publisher's most mystically charged corners, surfacing across Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme, Cloak and Dagger, and Hulk, sharing dark pages with the likes of Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and the dread Nightmare. That's rarefied company in Marvel's supernatural underworld, and D'Spayre has earned his place in it — a persistent, creeping presence whose 35 catalog appearances across 47 years mark him as one of the Bronze Age's most enduring figures of dread.
