Who is Celsius?

Arani Desai claimed to be the secret wife of scientist Niles Caulder, who had given her an immortality serum that also triggered her metagene — granting her the power to project intense heat or freezing cold from her hands. She went on to reform the Doom Patrol in his absence.

Celsius made her striking entrance into DC Comics in Showcase #94 in 1977, a Bronze Age debut crafted by Paul Kupperberg and Joe Staton that planted her firmly in one of comics' most fascinatingly unconventional corners. She's most deeply associated with the Doom Patrol, that beloved band of outsiders, and her 40 catalogued appearances — including four key collector issues — trace a presence that stretched across an impressive 35 years of DC history. Along the way she shares pages with compelling company: Robotman, Tempest, Valentina Vostock, and even Green Lantern, signaling a character woven into the broader fabric of the DC universe. Her inclusion in Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe is the ultimate stamp of legitimacy — this is a character the House of DC considered essential enough to define.
