Who is Blondie?

Blondie is the comic-strip heroine created by Chic Young, starring as the wife of bumbling everyman Dagwood Bumstead. Her domestic adventures and sharp wit anchored one of America's longest-running newspaper strips, reprinted here in Harvey's early comic-book format.

Few comic characters can claim a run as enduring as Blondie, who made her Platinum Age debut in Feature Book #12 back in 1938, brought to life by the legendary Chic Young. Over an extraordinary six-plus decades of publication, she anchored some of comics' most beloved domestic humor titles — Blondie, Blondie Comics Monthly, and Chic Young's Dagwood Comics — sharing her world with a wonderfully familiar cast including Dagwood, Daisy, Alexander Bumstead, Cookie Bumstead, and the perpetually exasperated Mr. Dithers. That kind of longevity, stretching all the way to 2004, speaks to a character who genuinely captured something warm and timeless about everyday American life, and with a key collector issue to her name, she's well worth seeking out on any serious comics shelf.
