About the series
Over the course of 123 issues, Magic Comics (1939–1949) from David McKay collected some of the most beloved newspaper comic strips of the era into one colorful, kid-friendly package. The series was a showcase for Floyd Torbert and Lee Falk’s Mandrake the Magician, alongside the daily antics of Chic Young’s Blondie (starring Alexander Bumstead and Dagwood) and E. C. Segar’s Popeye. With regular artistic contributions from Floyd Torbert, Phil Davis, and Clayton Knight, the title offered a reliable, entertaining mix of fantasy, humor, and family adventure.
