About the series
Jim Valentino's Shadowhawk ran for eight issues from 1994 to 1995 under the Image Comics banner, a dark, vigilante-driven series from the early days of the studio. The story follows the gravely ill Paul Johnstone, who uses a technologically enhanced suit and a brutal, anti-heroic code to wage a one-man war on crime, supported by a cast including his lover Christina Ried and detective Lou Jacks. Valentino, alongside writers Len Senecal and Robert Napton and artists Patrick Blaine and Chance Wolf, crafted a grim, introspective take on justice that occasionally crossed paths with other Image icons like Supreme. It remains a key artifact of the era's fascination with morally complex, armored vigilantes.
