Magnus, Robot Fighter
Western · 1963–1977 · 46 issues
About the series
In a far-future world where humanity has grown dangerously dependent on benevolent robots, Magnus, Robot Fighter serves as a lone warrior trained by the immortal robot 1A to police renegade machines. Published by Western Publishing through its Gold Key and later Whitman imprints, this 46-issue series ran from 1963 to 1977, with Russ Manning as its defining writer and artist. Manning's clean, dynamic linework and thoughtful world-building gave the series a distinctive, optimistic-yet-cautious tone, setting it apart from the darker sci-fi of the era. It remains a foundational work of American comic-book futurism, exploring themes of human agency and technological ethics with a pulp hero’s punch.
