“The Disease”

In "The Disease," Ed—still reeling from a grotesque affliction contracted in prison—lies helpless on the sidewalk, a broken figure abandoned by the world. Dragged from the streets by Cirel, he’s beaten again before being hauled into the sewers by a mysterious race of short humanoid creatures. Chester Brown’s stark, unflinching art and storytelling bring raw intensity to this haunting chapter, with his own pencils and inks shaping every grim detail. The cover, also by Brown, captures the story’s unsettling mood in stark, shadowed lines.
