Chet Doodley
Chet Doodley is a minor character from Chester Brown's anarchic underground anthology Yummy Fur, inhabiting the same bizarre, rule-breaking world as Ed the Happy Clown and other surreal figures that defined Brown's anything-goes storytelling style.
Few comics from the late 1980s had the audacious, anything-goes energy of Chester Brown's Yummy Fur, and Chet Doodley is very much a creature of that gloriously strange Copper Age underground. Debuting in 1987 from Vortex Comics, Chet inhabits a world where Ed the Happy Clown, Jesus Christ, Josie, and even Ronald Reagan share the same anarchic pages β which tells you everything about the wild, rule-breaking spirit of the series. With only a handful of appearances, Chet is a minor but genuine piece of alt-comics history, a footnote in one of the most talked-about and boundary-pushing Canadian indie titles of its era. If you're building out a serious Yummy Fur run, he's a small but authentic part of the story.
