In "Désolation," the X-Men face off against Sauron—only to see him revert to his true form, Karl Lykos, as the Savage Land itself begins to shift into something darker. With Ka-Zar arriving to reveal the dangerous awakening of Garokk, Cyclops chooses to retreat, wary of endangering Professor Xavier. Trapped by sudden, encroaching ice, the team is cut off from the surface as the wilds of the Savage Land descend into an unknown transformation. Written by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, with art by Byrne and Kieron Dwyer, and colored by Petra Scotese, this issue features a striking cover by Arthur Adams and Terry Austin.
