About this Issue

Wynd: The Power of the Blood #6 is the penultimate chapter of the entire Wynd saga — a multi-year young-adult fantasy built around queer identity, found family, and the violent cost of prejudice, all within a richly textured secondary world. As the battle for Pipetown reaches its climax and General Zedra wages an all-out campaign to destroy humans and Faeriekind alike, the issue carries the full dramatic weight of a story James Tynion IV has said he first conceived in high school. Across its run, the Wynd series earned Eisner nominations, multiple GLAAD Media Award nominations (including one for The Power of the Blood arc itself), and a CAP-Stone Award for Best Publication for Teens — credentials that mark it as one of the most award-recognized LGBTQ-centered fantasy comics in the BOOM! Studios era. Issue #6 stands as the final escalation point before a conclusion Tynion and Dialynas had been working toward for half a decade.

History

The Wynd saga began as a planned trilogy of original graphic novels announced in early 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic's near-shutdown of the direct market prompted BOOM! Studios to pivot the first volume into a five-issue periodical series, releasing Wynd #1 as a surprise drop in June 2020 — the first BOOM! title announced and solicited outside the traditional three-month advance cycle. Strong retailer response expanded that initial five-issue arc to ten issues, and two subsequent limited series (The Throne in the Sky and The Power of the Blood) followed. The Power of the Blood launched November 13, 2024, with #1 selling out at the distributor level and receiving a second printing; its eight-issue structure, longer than any previous Wynd arc, gave Tynion IV and Dialynas the page count they needed to close out the full saga. Issue #6 shipped November 12, 2025, with letters by AndWorld Design and editing by Eric Harburn, who has shepherded the series from its debut.
