Wynd: The Power of the Blood #4 is the structural midpoint of the eight-issue concluding chapter of James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas' multi-year fantasy saga — a series that has carried the banner for LGBTQ+ representation in all-ages adventure comics since its surprise debut in 2020. History

Wynd began its life as a concept James Tynion IV first sketched in high school, describing it as the foundational story from which all his subsequent work grew. The series originally launched in June 2020 as a surprise, non-traditional solicitation from BOOM! Studios — the first original series the publisher announced outside its standard three-month advance cycle — with every issue delivering over 40 pages of story, twice the standard comic format, from the outset. Tynion and Dialynas, who had previously collaborated for three years on the GLAAD Award-winning series The Woods at BOOM!, reunited for The Power of the Blood as the final arc of the now four-book saga, with the series formally announced in 2024 for a November 2024 debut and carrying the imprint of BOOM! Studios' all-ages BOOM! Box line. The creative team for this issue also includes letterer AndWorld Design, colorist Nancy Mojica, and editor Madison Goyette, as credited in the 37th GLAAD Media Awards nomination.
