Dragon as it transits the Panama Canal, where they encounter an attractive woman and become involved in a shipboard altercation; and a story featuring Dr. Fung in underground caves where a river is becoming increasingly hot and volatile, threatening to turn into a volcano, with characters trapped in a laboratory. The issue also includes "Patty O'Day" and other features.
Shorty tracks down Professor GNU's secret lair and discovers a sinister plot involving "crying germs"—vile concoctions designed to spread misery through a peaceful village. When he destroys the mad professor's evil creations, he stumbles upon an inspired counterattack: "laughing germs" that just might save the day and restore happiness to the afflicted townspeople.
Tex Maxon encounters a young man who's lost his month's wages to a trio of con artists running a shell game at Salton Sink, and when Tex recovers the stolen pay, he uncovers a larger scheme: the same crooks are hiding stolen goods in a nearby cave. With the help of the local sheriff, Tex tracks down the thieves and their stash, bringing the gang to justice and returning the townspeople's belongings.
When Don Quixote and his squire Sancho stumble upon modern warfare in "On the War Front," the legendary knight discovers that his old notions of chivalry fare poorly against the terrifying realities of mechanized combat. Encountering soldiers, a mysterious fort, and fiery beasts that spit flame, Don Quixote and Sancho must navigate a world far stranger and more dangerous than any windmill-tilting adventure of old.
