Aug 1965 · DC · 0.12 USD
“The Brain Pirate of the Inner World!”

In "The Brain Pirate of the Inner World!", Wonder Woman finds herself ensnared in a surreal mind game where she’s forced to play target on a colossal dartboard, all under the twisted whims of a mysterious villain. As her mind drifts between reality and illusion, a sudden blow snaps her from a vivid Golden Age flashback—triggered by the strange power of an old comic book—leaving her to question the true reach of the Dream Merchant’s influence. Written by Robert Kanigher and brought to life with dynamic art by Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, the cover by Andru and Esposito captures the issue’s wild, surreal tone.

The Brain Pirate toys with Wonder Woman, including having her act as a target in a giant-sized dartboard for a giant dart thrower (as illustrated on the issue's cover), until Hyppolyta's Amazons help her and the other captives escape. When Wonder Woman receives a sharp blow on the head, her Golden Age flashback - brought about by the uncanny powers of a Golden Age Wonder Woman comic book - abruptly ends. She takes her leave of the Dream Merchant, pondering the extent of his powers.
