Wonder Woman #153
In "Wonder Girl's Stolen Face! Part One," Wonder Girl finds herself in a whirlwind of aquatic chaos—rescued from a giant roc only to be clung to by both Bird-Boy and Mer-Boy as they plunge into the sea. Taken captive by a fearsome Giant Merman, she soon faces an even stranger threat when The Duke of Deception, wielding Martian science, performs a shocking transformation, replacing her face with a hybrid of her own and a grotesque, stitched-together "Frankenstein-face." Written by Robert Kanigher and brought to life by Ross Andru’s dynamic art and Mike Esposito’s bold inks, this 1965 issue—complete with a striking cover by Andru and Esposito—delivers a surreal, high-stakes adventure that redefines identity and danger in the Amazon’s world.

Having found a way to break free of the giant roc, despite the amorous Bird-Boy clinging fast to her wrists and the equally amorous Mer-Boy doing likewise with her ankles, Wonder Girl and her two rival hangers-on fall into the sea and into the clutches of a Giant Merman. After achieving a similar escape, with Bird-Boy and Mer-Boy still stubbornly refusing to let loose of Wonder Girl's wonder limbs, The Duke of Deception uses Martian science to "steal" Wonder Girl's face and transplant onto her a face that is half her original face and half a "Frankenstein-face".
