“Furnace of His Brain, Anvil of His Heart”

In "Furnace of His Brain, Anvil of His Heart," Wolverine faces his most brutal trial yet as Genesis attempts to forge him into a new Horseman of Death by fusing Cyber's adamantium to his skeleton. Written by Larry Hama and illustrated with visceral intensity by Adam Kubert, this pivotal #100 issue sees Logan break free from his torment, emerging transformed—bestial in form, childlike in mind, and fiercely defiant. The cover by Adam Kubert and John Dell captures the raw, fractured essence of this turning point, marking a defining moment in the character's evolution.

Genesis attempts to bond Cyber's adamantium to Wolverine's bones and turn him into a new horseman of death for the soon to be resurrected Apocalypse. Wolvie resists and with a little help from Cannonball takes out Tyler and the Dark Riders, most of whom die in the process. Wolvie is free, still adamantium-less but has changed into a bestial creature with a childlike intellect and a surly disposition.
