“Buried Monsters!”

In "Buried Monsters!", Mockingbird follows a haunting lead to the Grand Canyon, tracking down Hamilton Slade—the descendant of the Phantom Rider whose spirit has been tormenting her. With the West Coast Avengers on a vacation nearby, she uses SHIELD intel to trigger an explosion that frees the ancient entity Yetrigar, setting off a clash with a colossal monster while she slips away to confront Slade. Steve Englehart and Al Milgrom lead this pulse-pounding adventure, with Tony DeZuniga’s inks and Paul Becton’s colors bringing the desert mystery to life, all under Al Milgrom and Mike Machlan’s striking cover.

Mockingbird wants to track down the descendent of the Phantom Rider whose spirit keeps haunting her. She finds out his name is Hamilton Slade and he's working an archaeological dig near the Grand Canyon. She convinces the team to take a vacation to the area so she can get close to him. Learning about Yetrigar being trapped in the Canyon from SHIELD files, she causes an explosion to free him. While the WCA are distracted battling the giant monster, she slips away to deal with Hamilton. Moon Knight stops her from beating him to a pulp, as Hank Pym uses a brace to render Yetrigar unconscious.
