“Superstition Made Me Afraid to Love”

In "Superstition Made Me Afraid to Love," Diana, a striking young woman working at her father’s Grand Mesa motel, finds herself caught between desire and self-doubt. When a dangerous encounter with a guest pushes her to seek a better life, she leaves the motel to study in the city—only to discover that personal growth isn’t just about books, but about facing the fears that shape who you become. With moody, expressive art by Mort Leav and a haunting cover by John Rosenberger, this issue captures a quiet, poignant moment in a life on the edge of change.

Beautiful Diana works at her father's Grand Mesa tourist motel. Handyman Tom tries to molest her and she's rescued by writer Noel. Diana likes Noel but realises she’s not cultured or educated enough for him and his friends; Noel tells her physical attraction isn’t enough. After fending off lecherous guest George, Elaine decides to go to the city and study. “I can’t go through life just being a good-looking nitwit!” She improves her mind and “now that you’ve changed,” Noel says she’s good enough to marry him.
