About this Collection

This volume from IDW's Weird Love series collects a selection of vintage romance comics from the 1950s and 1960s, focusing on the theme of love's unexpected twists and turns. Featuring reprints of classic stories originally published by companies like Charlton and ACG, the collection showcases the melodramatic art and earnest storytelling of the era, with tales of heartbreak, jealousy, and reconciliation. It's a nostalgic look at the quirky, often over-the-top romantic narratives that defined a generation of comic books.

In "To Love a Cheat," Ann’s jealousy of her sister Myrt’s fame as dancer "Jessica" leads her down a deceptive path, pretending to be Myrt to win the affection of wealthy admirer Roland. As the charade deepens, Ann finds herself disillusioned by the hollow world of pretense—until a painful truth forces her to confront her own identity. Written by Al Tyler and illustrated by Art Cappello, this emotionally charged story unfolds with quiet intensity, its cover by the Iger Shop capturing the tension of a life lived in shadows.

Ann resents her younger sister Myrt, whose dancing ability helps make her a star under the name "Jessica." Ann starts to impersonate Myrt around their hometown; she even fools wealthy Roland, who is in love with Myrt. However, Ann discovers she doesn't like the phony world of theatrical hangers-on, and confesses everything to Roland, who hits her. Ann drops her masquerade and returns to her own life, happier now. She also discovers Myrt has married the real Roland, and the man she had been dating was another impostor.
