In "Part 2: A Hero in Kaol," John finds himself stranded in the jungle nation of Kaol after his flier is brought down by a lucky shot. Rescuing a group of red men from a Tark ambush, he learns their leader is Thuvia's father—and together they form an uneasy alliance to rescue both John's wife and Thuvan's daughter from Matai Shang. With the Jeddik of Kaol repairing John's flier, the group prepares to pursue Shang north, only to face a sudden, mysterious force that takes control of the craft mid-flight, leading to a crash in the icy mountains. Written by Arvid Nelson and illustrated by Leandro Oliveira, with colors by Thiago Ribeiro and letters by Marshall Dillon, this issue features a striking cover by Lucio Parrillo.
