“Part 1: The Shadow of the Temple”

In "Part 1: The Shadow of the Temple," John races to save Dejah and Thuvia after uncovering a secret meeting between Matai Shang and Thurid—only to watch helplessly as Shang captures them and takes his daughter Phaidor. With a tracking device from Xodar’s court and the last airship available, he sets off in pursuit across the Martian wastes. Arvid Nelson’s gripping script and Vicente Cifuentes’s dynamic art bring the chase to life, while Lucio Parrillo’s striking cover captures the tension of a desperate man on the edge of a storm.

John spies on a secret meeting between Matai Shang and Thurid and learns that they know a way to release Dejah from the Temple of the Sun before a year has passed. He follows them but is unable to prevent Shang from capturing Dejah and Thuvia and rescuing his daughter Phaidor. He catches up with them again at Shang's mountain hideout but they once again elude his grasp. John returns to Xodar's court where he is given a tracking device for Shang's airship and takes the last flier available to pursue his wife and her abductor.
