“How Un-Conventional”

Veronica Lodge makes quite the entrance on this 2001 Archie Comics cover, descending the staircase in a sharp autumn outfit — checkered skirt, tall boots, and a stylish hat — while proclaiming that everyone should fall for her new wardrobe. The punchline lands literally at our feet: Hiram Lodge is splayed out on the floor surrounded by bills, clearly having done exactly that, as the Lodge housekeeper looks on with exasperated concern. Cover pencils by Jeff Shultz and inks by Henry Scarpelli capture the warm comedic timing that makes Veronica's solo series such a pleasant read.
