Venom #17
The fourth chapter of "Twist" arrives in this 2004 Marvel series, and the cover by Skottie Young makes an immediate impression — a massive, muscular figure wearing a battered Spider-Man mask looms in close-up, arms crossed with quiet menace, while a shadowy panther-like creature lurks in the upper corner. There's something genuinely unsettling about the way the familiar red-and-blue mask sits on such an imposing, alien-looking form, suggesting the symbiote chaos at the heart of Daniel Way's story is reaching a fever pitch. With Young also handling interior art alongside inker Rick Ketcham, this issue has a visual consistency that makes it a satisfying chapter in Venom's early 2000s spotlight.
