Kami's murder investigation begins under Ishida's authority. They find Haya is also dead. Although most assume the burned paper next to Kami's body was the poem Saburo wanted, Ishida finds the missing poem in Saburo's belongings. Ink stains on Hoku's robe from creating the forgery he burned identify him as the killer. Saburo admits he bought the poem from Hoku. Ishida confronts the Inkeeper and the man admits he killed Haya because Haya killed his wife years earlier. As Ayano & Hasegawa leave, Saburo orders Benki to kill them for the poem, but Benki refuses and quits his employ
