Stan Sakai's cover for this 1997 Dark Horse issue says everything you need to know about the tone of "The Lord of Owls" — a massive, brooding owl looms over the scene as Usagi the rabbit ronin clashes swords mid-stride with a snarling anthropomorphic opponent. The contrast between the smaller, fierce combatants and the enormous owl dominating the dark background creates a wonderfully moody sense of lurking menace. Sakai's clean, expressive linework makes this an inviting entry point for anyone drawn to samurai action with a distinctive anthropomorphic flair.
