Usagi Yojimbo #10

Stan Sakai's cover for this 1997 Dark Horse issue captures the rabbit ronin Usagi mid-charge on horseback, sword raised and battle-fury in his eyes, surrounded by a press of spear-wielding opponents closing in from every angle. The title "Return to Adachi Plain" promises the kind of sweeping, kinetic samurai action that Sakai renders with such energy — the flowing white hair, the full armor, and the forest of jutting naginata create an image that's hard to look away from. A standout chapter in one of comics' most consistently compelling series.
