Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters #1

Spinning out of DC's Brave New World, this September 2006 first issue of an eight-part series launches the Freedom Fighters into their own spotlight, written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray with art by Daniel Acuña. The cover — taglined "They Fight for You!" — assembles a striking lineup: a dark-clad woman in green goggles, a sleek armored figure in black, and a bald hero in green stride forward, while a radiant, glowing figure descends from above and a hulking, menacing brute looms behind armed soldiers. It's a confident, atmospheric introduction to a team that looks every bit as formidable as the threats arrayed against them.
