Uncanny X-Men #6
Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 2) #6 is the second chapter of the 'Tabula Rasa' arc — the first major storyline Kieron Gillen built from scratch for the post-Schism Extinction Team — and it delivers the first full appearance of the Savage (Good Apex), a morally nuanced, hyper-evolved alien intelligence whose existence posed a pointed philosophical challenge to the X-Men's very identity as Homo superior. Gillen conceived the Tabula Rasa arc after hearing Rick Remender casually mention the newly evolved Montana wilderness during a Marvel X-Summit; he seized on it immediately and designated it as the second arc of his newly relaunched series. The Vol. 2 series itself was born directly from the X-Men: Schism event, which split the mutant cast and gave Cyclops the opportunity to form his hand-picked Extinction Team — an editorially deliberate relaunch at #1 under Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso, with Gillen carrying sole writing duties he had been building toward since co-writing with Matt Fraction. Greg Land served as the arc's penciler, joining the series after Carlos Pacheco handled the opening issues.
