The tension is unmistakable on Ben Oliver's cover for Ultimate X-Men #69 — Cyclops and Wolverine square off face-to-face in their sleek blue-and-gold uniforms, while a red-haired Jean Grey stands composed and steely-eyed between them, the X-medallion at her collar suggesting she's very much at the center of whatever's brewing. Robert Kirkman kicks off "Phoenix? Part 1" here, and that question mark in the title alone signals that something unsettling is on the horizon for the Ultimate universe's most complicated love triangle. A strong opening chapter that sets the mood with striking visual storytelling from Oliver.
