About this Issue

Issue #7 launches the second arc of Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto's critically praised 2024 Ultimate Spider-Man run — the debut ongoing series of Marvel's relaunched Ultimate Universe (Earth-6160) — making it a structural hinge point for the entire line. It delivers the first in-title crossover between the Spider-Man corner of the new Ultimate Universe and Tony Stark's Iron Lad, bridging the Ultimates resistance network directly into Peter Parker's street-level war against the Maker's Council. The issue also plants the seeds for the Ultimate Sinister Six, with Kingpin's ominous hint at six lieutenants foreshadowing the central antagonist group of the series' next major arc. Across every thread — Otto's suit revelations, Ben Parker and J. Jonah Jameson launching 'The Paper,' and Captain Britain's Bullseye corps — the issue expands the geopolitical scope of Earth-6160 in ways that resonate through the rest of the series' 24-issue run.

History

Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) was conceived by Jonathan Hickman following the events of his Ultimate Invasion miniseries, which established the dystopian Earth-6160 setting. Hickman has stated publicly that the complete 24-issue run was planned from his original pitch — issue #7 therefore represents a deliberate arc-break, the exact midpoint of the first collected volume expanding into the second. Artist Marco Checchetto and colorist Matthew Wilson remained the consistent creative team throughout, with Wilson Moss editing. The series was announced at New York Comic-Con 2023 and began publication in January 2024, with issue #7 released July 31, 2024.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Published July 31, 2024; written by Jonathan Hickman, art and cover by Marco Checchetto, colors by Matthew Wilson, letters by VC Cory Petit, edited by Wilson Moss.
  • Officially designated the start of the second story arc ('The Paper'), following the first arc ('Married With Children,' issues #1–6).
  • First appearance of Iron Lad (Tony Stark, Earth-6160) within the pages of Ultimate Spider-Man — he visits Spider-Man and Green Goblin, reveals their suits run on the same Stark/Stane network, and warns he will need their help later.
  • First in-title scene between Henri Dugarry (Captain Britain, Earth-6160) and Wilson Fisk / Kingpin — establishing Captain Britain's direct authority over Fisk as the Maker's Council's European overseer, and introducing the plural 'Bullseyes' as a standing assassin corps loyal to Dugarry.
  • Kingpin tells Captain Britain he has 'six' plans for eliminating the vigilantes, the first clear in-story signal that the Ultimate Sinister Six is being assembled — a team explicitly structured around Fisk's five borough lieutenants plus himself.
  • J. Jonah Jameson and Ben Parker launch their independent newspaper 'The Paper,' using Robbie Robertson as an inside source at the Kingpin-owned Daily Bugle — establishing the journalistic resistance subplot that runs through the arc.
  • Otto Octavius reveals to Harry and Peter that their picotech suits are built on Stark/Stane architecture and share a network — raising the first explicit concern about their technological dependence and Otto's own ambiguous loyalty.
  • Harry's suit AI is revealed to be modeled on his late father Norman Osborn, foreshadowing the psychological conflict that reviewers and later issues identify as the foundation for Harry's eventual turn away from heroism.
