Two-Fisted Tales #2

“Hill 203!”

"Hill 203!" is a stark, gripping wartime tale from Harvey Kurtzman and John Severin, with Will Elder’s inks adding visceral tension to the stark realism. As Allied and German forces push toward each other across a war-torn landscape, a single German paratrooper becomes the only one to sense the deadly pattern of buzz bombs—only to be shattered by the horror they bring. The cover, a striking collaboration by Kurtzman in both pencils and inks, captures the grim intensity of the moment.

As Americans make their way into Germany, the Nazis are sending buzz bombs over their heads. Farther east are German troops, coming in the opposite direction, and, they too, experience buzz bombs flying over their heads. However, one German paratrooper senses the bombs are actually heading in their direction instead of at the enemy. For once, he is right, and the bomb kills his two friends, and when the Americans catch up with the lone survivor, he has literally gone insane from fear.
