Top 10: Beyond the Farthest Precinct #[nn]
"A Screaming Comes Across the Sky" delivers a surreal, high-stakes chapter in Top 10: Beyond the Farthest Precinct, where a citywide possession by the Hell Ditch Pilgrim forces the police to confront not just an otherworldly threat, but the limits of authority itself. Written by Paul Di Filippo and brought to life with striking detail by Jerry Ordway—whose pencils and inks define the cover and interior—this 2006 issue blends cosmic dread with quiet, human moments, anchored by Robyn Slinger’s mysterious connection to the Toybox, a relic tied to ancient hope. The story closes as it began, with a picnic, but the world beneath the surface has irrevocably changed.

Police beat off the attack at the ball park, but thousands of people are possessed by the Hell Ditch Pilgrim. The Rumor explains that only Robyn Slinger can confront and cure the Pilgrim, for her Toybox is Pandora's box, and with it she can give him hope. Cindercott demands that the police rally to protect the mayor, the supreme figure of authority, but the police ignore him so as to protect the citizens at large. Robyn's intervention is successful, although the mayor and Cindercott are destroyed in the chaos. Kemlo becomes the new chief, and the adventure ends as it began, with a picnic.
