Dynamite announced the series at New York Comic Con 2023 as part of a licensing partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. Writer Declan Shalvey and artist Drew Moss — both self-described fans of the original property — were named as the creative team alongside letterer Jeff Eckleberry, with editor Nate Cosby overseeing the line. By issue #11, the series had already spawned the Cheetara prequel miniseries (by Soo Lee and Domenico Carbone) and the companion Apex one-shot (by Ed Brisson and Rapha Lobosco), all of which were coordinated to release in December 2024 as a coherent publishing event tied to the start of this third arc.
