ThunderCats #10 marks a bold structural pivot in Dynamite's 2024 revival series: rather than following the titular heroes, writer Declan Shalvey turns the entire issue over to the perspective of the antagonist Slithe, excavating a full emotional backstory for a villain who received almost no character development across the original 1985–1989 animated run. By portraying Slithe's homeworld of Plun-Darr as a place 'shattered' by the Great War with Thundera — and implying that the Thunderans themselves may have been the aggressors — Shalvey pushes the series into genuinely revisionist territory, inviting readers to question the moral certainties of the franchise's mythology. The issue also seeds the presence of a third, unidentified faction watching the Mu'Tants, a narrative thread that sets the stage for the series' subsequent arc. The Dynamite Entertainment ThunderCats series launched in February 2024 as the flagship title of a wide-ranging licensing partnership between Dynamite and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, announced at New York Comic Con 2023. Editor Nate Cosby assembled a core creative team of writer Declan Shalvey — known for Marvel work including Moon Knight and Alien — and interior artist Drew Moss, with letterer Jeff Eckleberry; both Shalvey and Moss have described themselves as devoted fans of the source material who approached the project as a contemporary reimagining rooted in the original show's first season. For issue #10 specifically, Shalvey brought in guest artist Joe Mulvey (Happy Hill; The Last Ride of Pillar & Pryde), whom Shalvey identified as a long-admired collaborator well-suited to the issue's more intimate, character-focused tone. The ThunderCats fandom wiki confirms the main series ran for exactly ten issues before transitioning into a broader crossover event format, making #10 the structural conclusion of that original run.
